Yesterday I talked about how crazy busy Marty has been and all of the hours that he has been working lately. Most nights he hasn't been coming home until 10 or 11 at night... which sounds pretty rough, except for the fact that I am a total night owl and it's been sort of nice to stay up late.
Even when Marty is not crazy-insane levels of busy, he is almost never home for the end of day chaos of bedtime, so with him extra busy, the biggest change is that the kids haven't been seeing him as much, and I've had several hours completely to myself at night. I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a part of me that really enjoyed the solitude.
Most nights I haven't done anything productive, but tonight I decided to take the time to work on choosing a new hosting for this blog. I used blogger for my old blog, and that worked well enough, so I just automatically set up the new blog with blogger. But I really hate the blogger interface. There is not much you can customize, and it sort of reminds me of the year 2000, or something along those lines. So I was exploring that, and thinking that I might even have enough time to try and pick something and maybe even make a switch tonight, when much to my surprise Marty waltzed in at a mere 9:30.
Soooo, no switch tonight, it looks like we're headed to bed pretty quickly here. But this does give me the opportunity to ask y'all for any input. Pretty much what I'm debating between at this point is setting up something on WordPress for free, or paying a little to use Wix to run it. We run Marty's business page with Wix, and that was pretty intuitive to set up and it's easy to make adjustments to things. It feels like with the exploring I've done on WordPress thus far, it takes a decent amount if know how to figure out what you're doing. Seeing as how most of my free time only comes in hour or two spurts, that's not a lot of time to settle in and learn much about what you're doing. I like the idea of building my page layout from scratch, and not having a template, and Wix makes that much easier to do than WordPress does. There's also a big part of me that just wants to pay someone to manage a site for me and make it do what I want it to do, but let's be honest here, there's no way I can justify paying for that.
I don't know how relevant it is, but I bought the domain through Google, so that's where it's hosted. (I'm also only about 80% sure I'm using all the correct vernacular here, FYI.) So what are your thoughts? Do I try and figure something out of WordPress, or do I use something like Wix? Or do you have another option to throw into the ring that I can look into? Oh, also while we're at it, do you have other blogs that you follow? What do you use for following blogs? If I were to put follow buttons on the page, I'm not sure which are the best ones to have.Labels: Blogging, Marriage
