A peek into our day: Smashburger and the park

There's nothing profound or controversial on today's post, it's just a look into our day today here in the Cluff home. That's the nice thing about having your own blog, and writing a post on it every day. You get to write about whatever you want to write about, and you can write about both the light things and the deep things. And if there's anything I want this blog to be, it's authentic; and in real life, some days you have deep thoughts, and sometimes you just have fun.

Long story short, our day today was fun and I want to share it with YOU!

This morning was a typical morning; make breakfast, play with the kids, change some diapers, make cookies with the toddler, tidy up, put them down for naps.

This afternoon we wanted to do something fun because Marty was home, so we decided to grab lunch at Smashburger (with the gift cards we got for Christmas #thanksgrandpaK), and then we went to a nearby park.

Peter sat by Marty while we ate and they enjoyed their fries together. Toddlers are so hard, but also so fun and so cute. This was one of those cute and fun times.

Peter's face in the second to last one cracks me up. I'm not even sure why he made it but he must have thought Dad was being prettttttty weird. Also, it turns out that fries are sort of good for eating, but MOSTLY, they're the perfect medium for getting ketchup into your mouth. Just ask Peter.

P.S. I have no idea how he got that scratch on his forehead, he woke up with it today. He's just trying to channel Harry Potter I guess.

Carolyn got to try some fries too... she's still working on her solid food skills but chomping on them kept her happy and entertained.

She was loving looking around and we had one scary moment when she was staring straight up at the ceiling while chewing on a mouthful of fries. Gravity took over and the fries started sliding down her throat, but she didn't want to stop looking up. Man, babies are always trying to kill themselves on your watch:

How cute is this? When we were done eating, Peter took his napkin and started wiping down the table. Hashtag raising a good citizen.

After Smashburger we went to a park. Our trip didn't last too long because it was early evening and the sun had gone down, making it pretty stinking cold. Peter could have played all day in the cold but mom and dad are such pansies about it. We haven't gone to the park much with him because Marty works really long hours when the weather is nice, and it's been next to impossible for me to go by myself with both of them being so little. Today we resolved that we are going to go more often. Peter loved going down the slides, but he doesn't quite have it down yet.

Marty and I both tried to go with Peter down the swirly slide and it backfired on both of us. Marty was a liiiiittle too wide and I was a liiiiittle too long.

(Side note: Yes, we know of the possible dangers of having your child on your lap going down a slide. We were very careful to keep his legs tucked in.)

If you just want to watch Peter and I playing on the slides for a couple of minutes, I've got just the video for you:

Annnnnd bonus footage of Carolyn all bundled up in the stroller:

Peter was not happy about leaving. You could tell he was having an internal battle between wanting to do what we ask and wanting to buck the system and stay at the park. As soon as I asked him if he wanted a cookie when we got home, he was all kinds of onboard with going home. Straight to the car he went.

We came home, had some cookies, and it was lights out for the little ones.

It was a good Saturday around here. How was yours?
